I've been limping along with an old Q9300 machine, and it's finally time to put the old girl out to pasture. I've been looking around a bit, but I'm realizing that I'm no longer up to speed on hardware. Can you guys help me out with some recommendations?

Budget: $800 USD or less
Needed: CPU, CPU Cooler(maybe), RAM 16-32gb, Motherboard, Windows 10 Pro

Primary use: 1080P gaming

Components I already own:
GTX 970
Samsung EVO 850 1TB
860W PSU It's an ancient model, but the unit is brand new since the original died while under warranty. It's just been sitting in my closet forever.

Current Plan:
I7-4790K
MSI Z97 Gaming 5
G. Skills Ripjaws 21300 32gb
Win 10 Pro

Any better recommendations or anything new coming up in the next month or so that I should be waiting on?

Unmatched Compatibility
Zero RAM Interference

Focusing on providing the widest range of
compatibility, the H7 utilizes an asymmetric slanted
heatpipe layout to move the heatsink away from the
RAM zone, Offering optimal compatibility for RAM
with tall heat spreaders on both Intel 115X and
AMD platforms.

I just had room in the budget, so I added it in. If I'm not going to see a benefit I'll either save the money or look elsewhere. Thanks for the info.

GPU would be the obvious place, but I already own that GPU. I purchased it months ago when my previous card died. I don't have any plans to upgrade it this pass. I see now that my post wasn't clear. I will see if I can edit it.

Power Supply I already own it. It's an old model, but the unit is a brand new replacement for the original that died under warranty. Been sitting in my closet a while, so I figured I'd put it to use. I'll update the original post.

The computer is mainly for gaming. I do the occasional bit of database work or coding on it, but I try to keep that to my work machines.

Thanks for the recommendations.
