Hi, back again. I have just upgraded my sons PC and put the 32gb of Corsair Vengeance (CMY16GX3M2A1866C9) in. The modules are 2x4gb. The Bios is only showing the modules as 4gb. All 4 of them when they should be 8 so only showing 16gb instead of 32gb.

AMD 8350 std
Crosshair V Formula Z
32gb Corsair Vengeance 1866 1.5
MSI 970 SLI
SuperFlower 1300

I have reseated them, tried all different slot combinations, tried increasing the voltage, tried plugging the third 4pin power lead into the motherboard aswell as the large one and the 8pin. I have set timing. Re-flashed the Bios. Cleared CMOS and left battery out. Upgraded to Windows 10 from 7. I have even rebuilt the thing to check all pins and still the modules show as 4gb. They worked fine in the old system.

Please please help as I would like to hold onto what hair I have left!!

Solution
Let me wipe my eyes and blow my nose real quick :) No sorry, it means 2 sticks of 4GB each. Good thing is don't feel bad, this throws people all the time, I come across it at least 2-3 times a week, sorry though, it's a bummer :(
#1 FX-8350 supports DDR3-1600MHz with all four slots filled or DDR3-1866MHz with two memory slots filled. Higher frequencies require an overclocked system.

#2 Corsair CMY16GX3M2A1866C9 is a 16GB kit. Combining two kits is not guaranteed to be compatible. Combining two kits can cause compatibility problems such as being unable to boot or unable to operate at rated specifications. Corsair suggests running at a slower memory clock speed but does not guarantee such combinations of multiple kits to work.

I plan on overclocking but even with with only 1 8gb stick it shows as 4gb in Bios and Windows. Tried 1 in all slots after CMOS and battery and the stick still shows 4gb. Also running at 1333.

Get the free app CPU-Z and let us know what the part number shows as in the SPD tab....have a couple thoughts A) you may have gotten mis-marked sticks B) wherever you got them may have had someone buy different sets (2 packages of 2x4GB an 2 of 2x8GB and returned the 2x4GB sets in the 2x8GB packaging (happens fairly often) then the store resold them as is (should have been marked as 'open box' or used in that case or C) you got packages marked 8GB and mistook that for it being each stick is 8GB when it's the 2 sticks together total 8GB

So 2x4 does not mean 2 4gig chips so to speak on 1 stick? Bahahahahahahahahaha Its a set of 2 4gig sticks?

Edit I did just copy the model number from another post as I thought ending C9 it was the same.

You Sir have made my new year! Bahahahahaha. On the sticker it does say 2x4. Now I know. And no regrets. I just asked my son if it ever said 32 on his old setup and neither of us can remember seeing it. Very relived my friend. Thank you very much. You serve your avatar well.
Happy New Year.

And thank you again.

Im off to tell him how much of a noob his dad is. Peace out.

And to Calvin7 I set them to 1866 the other day all 4 and my son said it switched off then it never switched off again. Probably because it had reset back to 1333. And thank you too.

So if I get a steady CPU overclock going I should then start with the sticks at 1866 maybe higher?
