bought a HP ProLiant ML150 G3 Server 1,60 ghz 2048 mb.it has no hard drives tried to hook one up ide nothing. then hooked one up to sata sorta reads it tired to load win 7 but having no luck. i plan on get about 6 or 7 hdds for it should i scrap the mob and go with a pc mob in it ? so far it only cost me $40 for the sweet case and hdd rack lol

It is a server machine and as such you need to buy or obtain a suitable server OS (Windows Server or Linux server distro..).

I have a 4TB WDMYCLOUD with a 4TB WD Elements attached (the Elements is just a backup). This works amazingly well and is accessible by every device on the network.

Anyway, for your usage I would find a site that discusses setup of a similar server scenario. Do you need Windows version or is free suitable...

Unless you really know what you're doing, you'll likely spend more on this thing than on a regular PC for that use.

You can't just toss an ATX motherboard in it.

For basic usage I personally would stick with something like I got with the WDMYCLoud though. I paid about $300USD total for the 4TBWDMYCLOUD plus the backup USB 4TB drive.

*I can access movies easily from my Samsung BD player, WD media player, or any computer. I even played music from it while 500 miles away.

I investigated servers before and it never made sense in terms of cost, noise and ease of use.

My house 'server' is just a regular PC, currently running Win 10.
Pentium G840 CPU, 4GB RAM, video off the motherboard.
It is also the HTPC for movies and music.

For this level use, it does not need to be a "server".

yes i jest bought a http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/getpdf.aspx/c04282509.pdf?ver=26 has a mob and ram and bios chip and cpu fans drave bays for $40 but no hdds i build all my home pcs for gameing which isnt much eq eq2 so on im thinking home server for you tube videos to watch and back up files to it
