This is my second time trying to build a desktop as my first was a disaster.
My new build will be.

Cpu: Core i5 4690k
Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB
Mobo: MSI MSI Gaming Z97 GAMING 5
HDD: 1TB seagate
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 960
Power: CORSAIR CX series CX500M 500W
I still haven't decided on a Case cooler TBH.

Due to my current budget, I will be adding an SSD and a CPU cooler in the next month or so.
All of the listed things would cost around 1020 CAD.

Please tell me if I am heading in the right direction, I just want to maintain a stable 80+ FPS on dota 2

Solution
1) Get WD Caviar Blue
2) Get a better PSU. EVGA 750W B2 is on sale for $56 right now so get that.
3) 212 EVO or Cryorig H7 are best budget coolers.
4) Asus Z97-A if you are serious about overclocking.
5) NZXT Source 210 Elite is a good cheap case. Corsair 200R is on sale right now though.
6) If you don't overclock, pick up a cheaper H97 board and i5-4460/4590/4690

Cheers :)

Thanks for your insight. Some of the choices you gave me are amazing.
To be honest, I have not ever tried overclocking a cpu before so that would be a new thing for me to learn.

Dota 2 Moba game may not need any OC because its very easy to run the game with a good GPU.

But the other game I am seriously thinking about is SF5 which is dropping on feb. Also because that game looks so demanding, I am going to get the Z79 and the 4690 just incase I needed to OC in the future.
