I am planning on getting a Fractal Design Define R5 case. From my pas experience, I do not find the need to overclock my CPU, but getting a few more frames in games is better. Since the size of GPU air coolers are limited, I was thinking if I used a small water cooler (single 120), I could get a good overclock, while I use a cheap air cooler on my CPU. How well does this work against fancy coolers of different manufacturers on 970/980

The h55 from corsair sees a lot of use as a gpu cooler, when paired with a nzxt g-10, but any asetek based pump will work there, not the CoolIT designs. For cpu I'd go with cryorig h7,Raijintek Aidos, ereboss or Themis. Or if you must, the obiquetous cm hyper212 EVO.
