I just bought a new GTX 970 Jetstream edition by Palit. My problem is that it is overclocked to 1350mhz by default and I am a little worried that even though it is probably safe and won't overheat the card, it will still cause wearing to the card in the long run. So I want to underclock it and set it to run at the base clock everytime I open a game, how do i do this?

Solution
You don't need to underclock it. The factory overclock that comes preconfigured on modern graphics cards is well tested and well below what the card is capable of achieving in almost all cases. Manufacturers are more worried about a plague of returns than they are about your performance, and are not going to configure a card with an overclock that is in any way likely to result in a slew of warranty RMAs. Your card is fine with it's default settings.

If you want to underclock it still, you can download the Palit Thundermaster tweak utility and change any of the configurable settings as you wish.

I was actually worried because I've heard that overclocking (even on safe levels) will cause your graphics card to age faster than normal. Didn't know default overclock is safer than manually overclocking. Thanks for the info!
