Choosing the Motherboard, Video Card, RAM and Power Supply

Asus Z170-A and I would pick ram anywhere from 2400-3200MHz what ever fits your budget. A quality PSU like EVGA G2 or GS series what size really depends on GPU but 650watt will run any single card solution.
Budget would help with GPU selection but GTX970-980Ti or R9 390 or 390X all are good choices.

Since I am on a budget I need to decide between the GTX 970 or R9 390.

What worries me is that the GTX 970 has 3.5GB memory and the R9 390 needs much more power.
I will check out that motherboard and PSU.

Thank you so much!

Those cards are very close in performance, gtx970 has lower power requirement (500watts), runs cooler and has the performance win at 1080P, The additional Vram on the 390 kicks in at 1440P and up, passing the 970.

I'll probably choose the GTX 970 since I will have a 1080P monitor. Thanks once again.
What brand should I go with?

Alright. But it seems that they have different clock rates.

But I can go with MSI, it probably won't matter.
