Will contain detailed info with what happened, TLDR title

Recently bought this http://pcpartpicker.com/p/bPLQmG

I finished the build about yesterday noon. Everything seemed to work well enough, fans were spinning, screen posted, bios had all the parts listed correctly.

Next thing i started going to install windows but stopped after partitioning the drive for lunch with family. I might have or might have not powered off the system before leaving for about an hour.

Coming back it was off, so i pressed the power on button on the case. The cpu fan sinned a millisecond for half a cycle and nothing else happened no leds no other fans moved. Pressing the button one two more times not even the cpu fan flinched.

Tried an off the case build to check what happened and the problem persisted. Finally figured the psu would be a culprit so i tried my old pc and it didn't turn on. Next i tried the psu paper clip test and saddly the psu fan woudn't move.

My questions:
I can't use my old psu for the new build cause it only has a 4 pin cpu cable. So my question is what could have i done wrong to mess it so that won't happen again with the new one. And is there a chance that other components could have been damaged. If yes is there a chance for something bad to happen by plugging a new psu to the system?

Solution
* happens. You even bought a decent brand. Even the best brands fail, its about % of failure and you lucked out. Yes, it sucks.
Yes, but unlikely other stuff is damaged. Youll be right by plugging in a working PSU.
