I have a gaming PC that I would like to use to host a Minecraft server. I've been trying to port forward and it has led to numerous failures. I have an ethernet cable and have always had it in my modem, then another cable from modem to router. When I decided to try and port forward I figured I should rather have it in my router from the start. Either one I could not get it to work. My question is should I have my ethernet in my modem, router, or would there be correct ways to use both? Finally if both would work which would be preferred?

- put the modem in bridge mode and configure port forwarding in your router.
