The other day I picked up a new XFX R9 390 graphics card from Best Buy to give my pc a boost for some new titles coming out in 2016, but when I installed it following a youtube guide on installing new video cards it wouldn't work. My pc powered on, and the fans on the card were spinning, which makes me think it's not a power issue (I have an 800W PSU). The problem was that my monitor didn't receive any signals. I tested this on multiple monitors, and tried putting in my old graphics card (radeon HD 7770) and everything worked fine.
I have had my computer for about 3 years, and it has always functioned great, but it has been unable to keep up with the newer games. I don't know much about building computers, and I live in a fairly small town that isn't very tech savvy. All my research online led me to believe that my motherboard might not be compatible with the new card. So my question is: should I go out and find a new motherboard, and if so which one should I get to be compatible?
Processor:
Intel Core i7 3770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
Motherboard:
Gateway FX6860 Intel Ivy Bridge H67
Memory:
12GB DDR3 dual channel
Current GPU:
AMD Radeon HD 7770 1GB
GPU I want to install:
XFX Radeon R9 390 Gaming 8GB
If you need any more information please let me know, thanks in advance.
