Worst Router Ever?!?

Hi Toms Hardware! I am having major connection issues with my new router when using two xbox Ones. This is my situation:

I used to use the cisco E2000. While that was a great router, I often found myself with a moderate or strict Nat, especially when my brother got on his Xbox as well.

So over the holidays I treated myself with the WRT1900AC Linksys router. I heard this was one of the most powerful routers ever.

I tried portforwarding my Xbox, and that left me with an open and my brother with a dissapointing moderate or strict. If my brother conncected first, neither one of us got a open. The only way one of us could have an open was if I connected first. So if I wanted to get on, I would unplug the router, plug it back in, and I would get the open.

I have tried many different solutions to getting an open NAT on both, and nothing works. I tried disabling UPNP, resetting, and enabling UPNP and nothing works.

Now, neither one of us can get a good connection. We get solid 4 bars on COD, but it is laggy as heck! Everything else in the house is fast (my phone, laptop, etc.)

I don't know what to do. Maybe I can take the router back and try to get a Nighthawk r7000. I have heard those are amazing.

Also, my ISP is charter, and I average 100 down and 10 up.

I feel really stupid, because the problem was so incredibly simple that a baby could have fixed it. I just had to unplug my modem. Just goes to show that before you go posting threads and what not, make sure everything is plugged in right, and you reset your stuff first. Thats 90% of the battle.

I have checked for updates, and there is no more I can do there. I have DHCP and UPNP enabled. I am not familiar with Qos. I am wired in so I don't know if that uses the 2.4g band or not. Actually, both of us are wired in.

I thought you may have using the Wifi since you said laptop, phone etc. Have you checked the network settings on each of the xbox one's to see that they do not have same ip address showing? At worse you can manually set an IP address within the IP range of the router ie 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.200 for each of the Xboxes if your router gateway ip is 192.168.1.1.

Your issues are likely being caused by a lot of WiFi noise in your area. Using a different frequency should help. If you have the option to use 5ghz, do that, it'll yield the best results, if you cant however, even things like 2.41 ghz will be better than the standard 2.4. You should be able to change the radio frequency from the stock firmware, if you can't though. I'd suggest installing a custom firmware such as DD-WRT, there's usually lots of information online about installing DD-WRT.

You shouldn't need to manually forward ports if you're UPnP-enabled, and that may be a big part of your issues. Either fully manually set up port forwarding, or just use UPnP.

If the problem you're seeing is lag and you have a "Good" connection to the server, I'd be more inclined to look into the routing outside of your home. You're as likely to just be getting passed through a bad/overworked hub somewhere along the line as you are to have actual configuration issues with your in-home router.

Ok. So my range is .50 to .249. I am going to set the Xbox Ones to .51 and .52.

Didn't mean to pick that as a solution... Nothing is portforwarded at the moment. I want to try port range or port triggering, but I don't know how.
