I have decided that I will buy an i7 for gaming. But, which version of the i7 should I go for?

I will be video editing a bit with the pc, but it is mainly for gaming. And, I won't even care much if the cpu doesn't do extremely well while video editing.

Oh, and what motherboard should go well along the suggested cpu?

I don't know if it matters, but I went for a MSi GTX 970 Gaming 4GB GPU.

Thanks a lot. I am new to pc building

if all you are doing is gaming get an i5 4690 if you want to OC then get a K chip, I would stick to z97 as z170 is not yet worth its price gap in my mind. if you need an i7 then go for a 4790 mor 4790K. if you will not OC then get a non K chip. if getting a non K chip then get a cheap motherboard. ( $70 ) if getting a K chip I would aim for around a $110 and upwards motherboard, as you want enough and decent enough phases for good power delivery and thus OC. it might be worth getting an SLI certified motherboard as you could ad anther 970 down the road. if so make sure it can actually run at at least X16 X8 in the two slots. really you want X16 X16
