The BIOS version is usually displayed somewhere on the boot screen. Or if you enter the BIOS (use the <Del> key) it should be visible at the bottom of the first screen.

There may be an option in the bios to change the boot splash screen, if you're not seeing the bios rev in the boot splash, change that option, you'll see it then and as kanewolf mentioned, enter the bios by pressing DEL during boot (I have to repeatedly press it during boot or it will continue to boot if i only hit it once during the splash screen, Asus M5A88-M)
