Well...I've never done that, and have no idea what, exactly, you downloaded and installed.
So no one out here can say with any certainty whether it will work or not.
I expect it wouldn't, because a Steam is almost certainly looking for files and settings that will not exist in your not-legit install.
Your internet was good enough to download and install the pirate version. The real version will not be any larger.

Whatever.
You having a crappy internet connection does not change the fact that you should remove that and install the proper version from Steam.
Again, there is no telling exactly what that thing is that you installed.
