Waste Ink pad saturated on Epson Workforce 500

I was just cleaning the print head on the printer and an error message popped up once it was finished:
"Waste ink pad in the printer is saturated. Contact your dealer to replace it."

My only option is to turn it off. I bought the printer from Target a few years ago with the normal warranty. They no longer sell my printer nor do they have any apparent service options. I'm not going to pay any expenses to repair the printer anyway. I prefer to do it myself.

My printer has a horrible reputation of clogging and fading colours so this is probably the thousandth time I've cleaned the print head from the setup menu. Normally I print about 75 pages per month if that helps.

I also buy ink in bulk instead of the expensive Epson original ink. The print quality with the bulk ink appears to be the exact same. It also clogs just about as much as with the original ink.

I'm not falling for any paid software or paid options. I'd also prefer to not install any extra accessories if it's possible. If your solution doesn't meet my criteria, don't post it.

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I've made very few posts here.

Here is a link with free reset software.

The clicking the blue "Windows" download link immediately downloaded the file "ink_pad_reset.zip". My virus scan found no threats.

I have no way to test the reset file as a solution.

However, what originally drew my attention was the need to replace the waste ink pad and I was curious to see what all was involved.

Lots of super absorbant products out there..... Perhaps you could cut some appropriate material to the proper shapes and replace the pads accordingly.

Per the video I think the counter still needs to be reset.
