Do i need to upgrade my CPU for newer games?

I Currently have an i5 3470 and was wondering if i should upgrade it to give me better performance in newer games such as Fallout 4 JC3, Star Wars Battlefront.

Also AMD is cheaper than intel. but if i where to upgarde my CPU to a Intel Haswell or Skylake i would need a new MOBO. AMD is cheaper so i could use the rest of my budget leftover from the CPU to get Motherboard but which would be more cost effective?

You can run videogames with athlon X4's 60FPS mate, that cpu u have there is very good its not "OLD" as people tend to think!! If you have a good GPU it is what is going to do most of the work just get a good one and dont spend tyour hard earned cash on a new cpu
