I need help/advice with my PC build. I got a 4k monitor for Christmas and an MSI GTX 970 gaming 100 ME GPU via displayport cable. I am not sure if I need/should upgrade my CPU and other components.
Here are my system goals (30 fps or higher all games)
Dual monitors (Currently running this now): 5431x3055 and 2715x1527 both at 60 Hz
One game running with 5 web browsers open, MS word, MS excel, sometimes paint heh, itunes, MSI after burner app to monitor my GPU, Steam, sometimes some sort of video capture app.
Skyrim: all max or close to it
Star Trek Online: all max or close to it
Elder Scrolls Online: all max or close to it
Kerbal Space Program: all max or close to it. Simulation game, both gpu and cpu intensive, will be 64 bit soon so I will need more RAM for all my mods.
Current build:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T BE 3.3GHz OC to 3.6 GHz
GPU: MSI GTX 970 gaming 100ME
MB: Gigabyte M68MT-S2P mini ATX
PSU: 675 Watt
RAM: 8GB at 1333 Hz
HDD: 1tb Seagate (150g left, this is filling fast)
Sound: Sound Blaster Audigy SE
Components I am looking at buying:
CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K
Cooler: No Idea, something with 2 120mm fans.
MB: MSI Gaming Z170A M5 (LGA 1151 socket)
RAM: 12gb at 3200Hz G.Skill Ripjaws V series (DDR4)
HDD: Format current Seagate HDD, new 1TB WD black HDD
SSD: OS boot drive only, so small drive.
Possible new case.
Installing Windows 10 if I update components.
I am also looking at a 2nd 970 (same exact as I have now) with a new PSU, the size of which I am unsure.
Do I need to upgrade components? What will the bottleneck be?
I really have no idea what I need or don’t need so forgive me if these questions are ridiculous.
