I'm running Lubuntu on a Latitude D530 that's seen better days as I wait for my PC to be fixed. I just installed Lubuntu today in an effort to fix the problem, I had Ubuntu before. For some reason, I can't click, but only sometimes. I have a mouse and a trackpad, and both behave the same way. If I open a program, I usually am unable to click anything on my screen, but I can still use keyboard shortcuts and stuff. If I use Win+D to go to my desktop, I can usually click on stuff again, but that's not a guarantee. There were even times during installation that I couldn't click.

Is this a driver problem, or hardware? Any ideas?

You can rule out your drivers and the hardware being the issue by running on a different OS such as Microsoft's Windows and see if the issue is persistent. According to this spec sheet the highest OS support offered by your unit while on Microsoft's platform is Windows Vista.

If you're interested in migrating to Windows 7 then you can try and install your drivers off of their support site but run/install them in compatibility mode.

Right click installer>Properties>Compatibility Tab>Windows XP/Vista [from the drop down menu]

From there on you can also try and revert to an older version of Ubuntu and see if the issue is averted.
