Is an i7 4790k compatible with a H81M-S2H Mobo?

I've been searching around for this and was hoping I could get a definitive answer, and maybe a further recommendation.

I've looked on the gigabyte website and at the cpu compatibility: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=5158
It doesn't have the i7 4790k on there however I know it's the same socket type, an LGA-1150. I've done some digging online and found a few online shops selling the 4790k and this mobo together as a package however I'm struggling to find a definitive answer as to whether these two are compatible.

If not, I'm wondering what would be the next best option for someone who games heavily and also streams quite a bit with a two monitor set up and a GTX970. An i7 4790 non k perhaps? bear in mind I'm currently not in a position to change the motherboard.

Thanks!

Solution
It's compatible yes, but you're pairing an unlocked processor with a motherboard that doesn't support much in the way of overclocking. To get the most out of a 4790K you will need at least a Z97 motherboard.

Thanks for the reply, would you say the purchase would still be good if I plan on upgrading the motherboard in the future?

A 4790 non-k is still a big performer. The K gives you the overclock advantage but other than that it's only about 5% better in heavy applications. In games they have almost exactly the same performance. So unless you want to overclock, which i wouldn't recommend on that board, you don't need the K.

This is usually done when the retailer would just like to give away mobo's to make the deal look good. If you're basically getting the mobo for free, then it's a good deal. It will work, but not overclock, but would be a good backup board.....and something to get you going until you pick out a Z87/97 that would give you more features....including the ability to overclock and use faster RAM, etc.

Yeah quite honestly that's where a lot of my confusion has reigned from, but if the 4790k is compatible then I will go for that as I'm not exactly overclocking massively right now and when I do upgrade my mobo I'll be in a good position with the cpu.

Is this good thinking?

Yes. I wouldn't OC at all on a H81 board, but you can try, it wont blow it up.

Yeah I think the answer, it won't blow up, is something I can get behind! Thanks!
