Hey there, jinx28. Happy New Year!!!
Would you please post a screenshot of what you see about the drive in Disk Management (you can use imgur.com to upload the image)?
If there's no drive letter assigned to it, perhaps all you need to do, is to assign it a new one in order for the HDD to be accessible via your Windows Explorer (This PC, My Computer). Here's how to do that:
How to change the drive letter assignment in Windows.
If this is not the case, you could try the HDD with a different computer, to see if the same thing happens. Or try accessing it via Ubuntu Live USB/DVD, to see if it's properly recognized and if you can get to your files. If that doesn't help as well, you could try with data recover software:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html and http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.htm. And last, but not least, the most reliable option of all - a data recovery company.
Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
