I'm running a custom PC I built 2.5 years ago. I take good care of it - the internals are cleaned regularly.
It shut down once last week without warning. This happened again today. I couldn't power it on for about 40 seconds; the power button simply did nothing the first few times I pressed it. When the PC turned on, it turned off after about 30 seconds. I took off the side pannel, and nothing seemed to be warmer than usual.
After giving it a 5 minute break, it turned off after about 1 minute. After giving it a 20 minute break, it turned off after about 5 minutes. During the time it was on, I monitored the CPU and GPU temps. CPU idled at 52, and the GPU stayed around 38.
When I try to turn my PC on, I may have to hit the power switch a few times.
I suspect this may be a power issue. I used to live somewhere that had very frequent power outtages, and after experiencing a few of those, I bought a UPS. It does not react when my computer shuts off. My PSU is likely the weakest component in my rig sporting no 80+ certification and being over 2.5 years old.
It may be worth noting that when it does power on, it boots quickly and it functions normally before abruptly shutting off.
Does this problem seem to be PSU related? Is there anything else I could check?
