Hi all,

First time computer builder here. I'm stuck and don't want to proceed until I get some advice on how to resolve my issue. I would really appreciate any feedback as I'm stressed out and just want to get my machine up and running.

Issue:

I was able to get my machine up and running without too much trouble (or so I thought). Installed Windows 7 and went through all the updates only to learn that my BIOS and Windows were only recognizing 8 GB of RAM instead of 16 GB I had installed. After some trial and error, I came to the conclusion that one stick of my RAM was bad as one stick would give me error code '53' on the mother board (memory initialization error) and the other would boot and work fine (using the same slot (A2 - I was originally using A2 and B2 as instructed in the User Guide). An ASUS rep also assured me this was nothing more than bad RAM. So I shipped my RAM back and ordered Crucial in place of Ripjaws.

So I install the new RAM only to find out that my issue still persisted. Only 8 GB of my RAM was being recognized. I continued to do research to find out why it would only be recognizing one stick of RAM. Despite all the warnings about updating my BIOS, I figured updating to 1302 version (I'm running 902) might solve the problem. I followed the procedures to extract the new BIOS file to a flash drive (formatted to FAT) and I inserted the flash drive into the appropriate USB drive on the back and held down the USB Flashback button. I would like to point out that I also extracted a BIOS updater utility on the flash drive as well. I'm not sure if this caused my issue but I wanted to point it out just in case.

After holding down the Flashback button, it flashed for a few seconds and then went solid blue. I went online to research how long the BIOS update should take and read that a solid blue light was not good and would indicate that my update failed. After waiting approximately 6-8 minutes (and while the light was still on - maybe I hosed it up by not waiting long enough), I tried to boot my machine back up and received error code 53 again. I've since swapped my other RAM stick into slot A2 and I still get error code 53.

Finally, I tried to follow the procedures to recover my OLD bios by inserting the ASUS DVD into the optical drive, but I continue to get error code 53. I also tried inserting the flash drive into a USB drive to see if it would read from there, and it didn't work.

At this point, I don't know what to do and don't want to hose up my BIOS anymore than I have and I could really use some advice as I'm frustrated. Any help would really be appreciated!

Thanks for the feedback. Is there any other chance my BIOS is hosed and I could flash it back or revert to the old? If my motherboard really is bad, I'm fine sending it back in but I'd only like to do that if it's necessary and as a last resort. Anyone else?
