I'm looking to buy a new graphics card to upgrade from my current GTX 750
but I'm not sure whether my power supply would hold up

My current setup:
PSU: http://1stwave.co.nz/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=752
CPU: i5-4460 (not overclocked at all)
GPU: GTX 750 OC 2GB (ASUS, not overclocked at all)
Motherboard: ASUS B85 Chipset
RAM: 8GB 1600

I would like to upgrade to a GTX 950 OC or a GTX 960 but I don't know whether my PSU would cope with it. Help would be very much appreciated :)

Thanks.

You can use this hierarchy to compare the pricing between two cards, to see which one is a better deal, and also to determine if an upgrade is worthwhile. I don’t recommend upgrading your graphics card unless the replacement card is at least three tiers higher. Otherwise, the upgrade is somewhat parallel, and you may not even notice a worthwhile difference.

The 750 to 950 is about 3 tiers... upgrade from a 950 to a 960 would be hardly noticeable and not worth the additional cost of the card let a lone the PSU upgrade. Tho yours is 400W, I gotta wonder if it can actually deliver.

Thermal and Power Specs:
95 C = Maximum GPU Tempurature (in C)
90 W == Graphics Card Power (W)
350 W = Minimum System Power Requirement (W)
1x 6-pins = Supplementary Power Connector

agreed with this, though i was thinking 750 to 950 it's only one generation apart, and one or two levels apart. you might get 50% increase in performance? and how much will it cost (card and possibly power supply). not worth the money or the effort.

The 750 and 9xx cards are the same gen, both maxwell. The 750 is just the smallest version and the first to arrive. It's a nice jump from the 750 to the 950. I agree that moving up to the 960 isn't as nice a jump. 30% faster for the 950 is probably worth it.

The 950 came out in August but here in December (last Hierarchy Chart published see link above) THG hasn't added the 950 as yet. But we do see that THG does recognize the 270X as being 3 tiers above and the TPU graphic above has them at a tie.... so if we ignore overclock ability, 3 tiers seems right.

The 750 is based upon the 1st generation Maxwell 28nm GM107-300 w/ 512 Cores : 32 TMUs : 16 ROPs
The 950 is based upon the 2nd generation Maxwell 28nm GM206-250 w/ 768 Cores : 48 TMUs : 32 ROPs and is a simply a cut down version of the 960, much like they did with the 970 (GM204-200 / 1664 : 104 : 56) / 980 (GM204-400 / 2048 : 128 : 64)
