I have a Z170 motherboard that can take an M.2 ssd, but is paying the extra $80 worth it over a regular ssd. Is it a lot more faster? Thanks!

Solution
If the m.2 can make use of 4xPCIe 2.0 or better yet 3.0 lanes.....then yes. It is important to note that it will be faster in benchmarks, but you will probably not notice it being much faster in day to day operations.

When you have several of them, transfer in/out, and do heavy professional activities.....then PCIe storage can really shine.
