Can I plug a 6 pin PCI cable into a 8 pin slot on a modular power supply?

Ok I have a modular power supply (evga 750 G2) and I would like to custom sleeve it. The problem is you can only do a 8 pin to 8 pin or 6 pin to 6 pin gpu power. The power supply only has 8 pin pci expansion ports. The question is will it work to plug a 6 pin connector into that 8 pin connector ON THE POWER SUPPLY. Thanks for any responses

It works like this: 8 pin to 6+2.

I know how the 8 to 6+2 works. However when you sleeve a cable you sleeve a 6 pin to 6 pin as opposed to 8 to 6+2. I was wondering if the 6 pin can be plugged into the 8 pin port on the power supply.

It should work, if the 6 pin on the cable does fit the 8 pin on PSU and if pinout correct.
