Hello.

I have a gtx 480 and i found another card to SLI for a good price, so im thinkink either buy 1 more gtx 480 (my psu can handle both cards) or sell my current 480 and buy a new gtx 970. Is there a big difference between 2 480's from 1 gtx 970 in performance?

Thank you.

P.S. i also checked out gtx 960 but from what i saw this card might not keep up with x2 480.

there are really just 3 970 options you should bve looking at. You can find an extensive comparison here.

The only thing missing from that article is prices, so compare that of your retailer of choice to the features you want.

youre going to get much better performance with a higher gen more current single card then 2 or even like 4 past gen cards.
If we were talking 780tis then I would say yes but youd be better off with a 970 or 2 since theyre not that expensive.

performance wise the 970 would blow any 480 sli setup out of the water, if you have the money go for it. they are whole diferrent beasts. the main problem with the 480 is the 1.5gb VRAM which is simply insufficient for modern titles. you should also note that not all games are SLI optimized, meaning some games would still just use 1 GPU.

Future-wise, you should surely go for 970 instead of 2x480. Moreover, not all games out there support SLI configurations, so you may end up with only one 480 running and a respective experience. Also, as far as I know, SLI configs are less stable in terms of minimum and average fps as compared to single GPUs.

Thank you all for your answers, its pretty clear that im going for the gtx 970!Now i found EVGA 970 superclocked with ACX cooling what u guys think?i can get the msi 970 and gainward 970 at a cheaper price, but that EVGA has a boost clock 1317MHz.

MSI is best. All the EVGA "superclocked, 30%cooler, 50% quiter", that is all marketing techniques that work GREAT. The MSI is the best because it cools everything, just as quiet if not quieter than EVGA. The evga is still an ok 970.

Totally agree, and you can overclock your MSI's version to an even higher level than 1317 Mhz. Just beware of coil whine issues with all the 970s (my MSI GTX 970 sings a little bit at high-as-hell-fps moments, but no real discomfort caused despite the PC standing 30cm away from my head).
