What can cause this lag? -HP

Hello Forum!

I have a question regarding some lag on an extra PC which my girlfriend wants to use for playing video games such as Heroes of The Storm, World of Warcraft and Hearthstone. The PC is a standard HP pc with a EVGA Geforce 650 instead of the standard graphics card it was born with.

The HP model is G5249sc
and the specs are as follows:

AMD Athlon II X4 635 Processor 2.9Ghz (Quadcore)
4,00 GB of ram (1333mhz)
EVGA Gtx 650 graphics card
Windows 10 - 64bit OS
AOC 23.6'' 1920x1080p screen

The PC runs fine when not playing games. But when running for example Heroes of The Storm it runs constantly on 25-35 fps. The game is running these fps when running on low graphic settings or high. Approximately the same FPS.

What can cause this low FPS?

I know Evga gtx 650 isn't the best graphics card available, but it should be doing better than 25-35fps on low settings when running Heroes of the Storm (1920x1080)

Hey,

A few things could cause an issue like this. It could be something to do with temperatures getting too high ( download MSI Afterburner to monitor temps of both GPU and CPU ) and then post some screenshots if possible.

What is your CPU Frequency sitting at in the games ( found in task manager in Win 10 ) and the GPU Clock Frequency ( found in MSI Afterburner )

What is your CPU and RAM usage when the Computer is idling.

Also, what is your CPU, RAM and Graphics Card usage when playing the game.

Heroes of the storm Medium settings:

CPU recheas 43 celcius - clocks 2913Mhz (45% usage)

GPU Reaches 53 celcius - clocks 1059mhz and around 38% memory used.

ram used = 75% total

This numbers are based on HWMonitor.

That all looks pretty good, although, I would expect it to try to use more RAM.
Could you run 3DMARK Firestrike and tell me what the Physics, graphics and Combined score is?

Also, during Heroes of the Storm, what is the Gpu Usage?

hm. According to HWMonitor, the readings are:

GPU = 0%
Frame Buffer = 0%
Video Engine = 0%
Bus Interface = 0%
Memory = 38%

- My Task manager only contains information about CPU, ram, disk and ethernet. No GPU :z

ran the 3DMark FireStrike benchmark. The sight was not pretty! The score landed on 2002.
(Graphics score = 2171 - Physics = 3895 - Combined = 866)

On MSI afterburner the GPU Usage was still only on 0% (Maybe the graphics card is too old?)
Reached a temperature of 60 celcius.

Was the 2002 the graphics, physics or combined score? If it was the combined, it is pretty low for the 650. On the note of the GPU being too old for MSI Afterburnet etc, it is definitely not, pretty much anything should be able to be monitored.

Sorry For another benchmark, but could you also try Furmark. But before starting the benchmark, take a screenshot of the initial Furmark Screen ( it will look something like this http://www.ozone3d.net/public/jegx/201204/furmark-1.10.0-main-interface.jpg )

They both seem within the normal use for a 650, nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. If you haven't updated the GPU drivers in a while I would do so here: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/download/driverResults.aspx/97027/en-uk
and I would also select prefer maximum performance in the Nvidia control panel, in Manage 3D Settings, Program Settings, select the Correct program and find Power Management Mode

I will. I enabled Vertical Sync in Heroes of the storm it now bumbs 40fps on medium settings. I guess that is quite realistic for a 650 gfx card.
But thank you for all your help. Was quite fantastic, i got a look into why it acts as it does. (GPU usage is around 60-70% when running HoTS)

One more thing, if you haven't updated your drivers in a while, you will see a large performance increase for Heroes of the Storm, as Nvidia released a driver specially for it ( with every driver after supporting the game )
