Two Motherboards on One Computer

It may not be practical, but I need some info on how to make a computer with two motherboards and a processor for each motherboard. The two processors are also at different speeds. You may be thinking about having only one motherboard that has the processors but, from what I've heard, you can't have two processors with different speeds on the same motherboard. This would be on one operating system (Linux most likely).

Again this is not practical in any way and is only being made as a proof of concept for something (explaining why would take too long and wouldn't be worthwhile). Now what I need to know is: is it possible? How can it be done? Is there another way of doing this? Is this going to be difficult or expensive?

Once completed I plan to test the processors individually on certain processes (I've already found out how to do this). That is why I have to have two different processors. As of now I haven't bought anything of anything for this computer.

If you have any answers I am very grateful for them. Again I'm not planning on using this for anything practical but for testing purposes. That said the hardware for it doesn't have to be good at all it just has to be functional. Thanks.

Not practical. You would essentially have two PC's in one case, needing their own PSU, storage, RAM, etc. If you wanted to compare apples to apples with the processors you would need a motherboard that was compatible with both and simply just swap them out. If the processors you want to test use different sockets, you might as well build two systems with as similar components as you could get.

I'm fine with them being essentially two different computers but they need to run on one operating system and be able to do separate processes. Obviously the processes would have to be set to a certain processor after it has already started. I'm not planning on testing the processors individually but together. More as a statement that what I want to do can work. It may not make sense but that's because I am leaving a lot out.

Well if that doesn't work then is there another way that I have have these two separate processors to be able to work on the processes of one computer? I have seen people use multiple computers for thing like rendering and I wonder if I could do something similar. I don't really care how I do it but I want to do in some way that doesn't involve doing something absurdly difficult.

Well this really sounds like a cluster node system, take a look here:

https://serverfault.com/questions/415003/how-does-one-cluster-multiple-machines-to-act-as-one-to-run-multiple-virtual-mac

Otherwise im fairly sure you can run a VM on each pc and connect the two via LAN and just tab between the two. Im guessing this isnt what you want but depending on your budget you could look into a software solution for sending processing to one cluster node and have that node send back the processed data. That would require a stable and fast network connection thou as that is what will determine the speed of your system.

What you are talking about is basically server grade stuff used in render farms etc, it will be difficult because of the obscure nature of it. As soon as things start heading towards mainstream use it will get more and more easily manageable but since what you're doing isnt needed outside of very specific tasks, dont hope for too much.

Run on one operating system?

Best to abandon such thoughts quickly.....LOL!

Cluster fantasies gone bad, I fear....

Build a dual cpu workstation from practically free "obsolete" server parts, this is my dual Xeon x5680 and its cinebench score is +1500 (1279 x5650 upgrading to x5680's = 20% gain) but either cpu setup still SMOKES a i7-7700k@5ghz..

And a cpu/mobo like this @ only $125 it's impossible to find more bang for the $$
