INTEL XEON E5 2690 V3 IVB-E 12 CORE 30M 2.4-3.0Ghz

or

i7-5960x

trying to decide on these two for a new system taht i will use mainly for editing 4k and raw footage on plus some after effects and 3d rendering and a lot of music production/ audio recording

never had a xeon before but read about a lot of hype behind them. would be very grateful for all the advice i can get towards making a decision as i am getting ready to spend a lot of money. can you tell me which you would buy for what im going to do and why you would pick on over the other?

here is another thread of mines with a little more info that I've been going off of...

thanks

In single core performance the I7 beats the xeon. The I7 is also a better overclocker. However the xeon has more cores so multi threaded benchmarks do show the xeon to come out on top plus has a higher turbo clock of 3.8 as opposed to 3.5. It supports more ram as well. The I7 is a newer chip compared to the xeon. I personally would go with the I7 over the xeon since it overclocks quite well sometimes up too 4.4 on air and 4.5/4.6 on water. And six cores wouldnt be shabby at all on any software that can utilize the multicores, so you will gain the benefit of single core speeds plus the additional cores. Not too say the xeon is t a good choice either. I believe theyre pretty similar in price too.

thanks for replying.

i found this on eBay but i get that "if it seems to good to be true" feeling.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/INTEL-XEON-E5-2690-V3-IVB-E-12-CORE-30M-2-4-3-0Ghz-L0-stepping-E5-2680-2690-C610-/191773723017?hash=item2ca69ac989:g:0yIAAOSwsB9V-ife

do you know anything about cpus that are engineering samples because i think thats what the seller mentioned about one of his other ones he had listed. his feedback is 100% positive put its not that high so i dont know what to take of it.. im skeptical

thanks again
