I built my computer in 2009 with the Vista OS.
I need to upgrade to Windows 10 and am aware that the hardware is outdated.
My question is: given the build below, would it be possible to bring the hardware up to date by upgrading my components or would there be issues with the motherboard or some other component I may not be aware of? If so, would it be better to purchase a new machine altogether? I would want to be able to play the newest games.

Build:

Tower- Cooler Master HAF 932 RC KKN1-GP ATX

Motherboard- ASTS P6TV2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX

Graphics cards- Two EVGA 01G-P3-1180-AR GeForce GTX 285 1GB 512-bit DDR3

PCI Express 2.0 x 18 HDCP ready SLI supported

Power supply- Corsair CMPSU 1000HX 1000W ATX12v 2.2 / EPS12v 2/91 SLI ready

CPU- Intel Core I7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130 w quad core.

Flash Drive- OCZ Diesel 4GB single channel flash drive (USB 2.0 portable)

RAM- OCZ Platinum 6GB (3x 2GB) 240 pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Hard Drive- Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640 GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0 GB/s 3.5"

Router- Linksys WRT54GL IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE802.11bg wireless-G broadband

Solution
It should run Win 10 no problem. It won't really be any faster than it is now, though.

But don't drop any money trying to 'update' it. VERY soon, you will have just built a whole new PC.
Rather than just building a whole new one from the start.

There's nothing that i7 920 can't handle in modern games, heck most games still run on i3s; just overclock it a bit if you can. The only thing you *need* to replace on there is your GPUs; a GTX 970 or R9 390 would do fine with your system. PCIE 2.0 vs 3.0 is not a big deal http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/pci_express_scaling_game_performance_analysis_review,7.html. I built a 4770K system and compared to my i7 960 system I can't really tell the difference in gaming at all when they were each equipped with a GTX 780.

The reason I interested in W. 10 is, if I recall correctly, there is a game I'm interested in that indicated W. 10 was necessary in order for it to play correctly. I could have misread it.

Thanks guys for taking the time to answer my post.

Happy New Year all.
