Need Options for 1080p gaming, best bang for my buck

Hello everyone,

Currently I'm buying parts for my new build. Already have 550watt EVGA G2 PSU, and am going to buy a mini-itx H170 mobo with an i5 6500. Part of me (perhaps the old gamer in me) wants a GTX 970 but I'm guessing I can get by with something a little more frugal. I'm definitely a more casual gamer now and just want a pretty good experience gaming at 1080p. Most of my time is going to be spent playing Fallout 4 and Heroes of the Storm. I also have a large backlog of games on steam that I want to play, mostly indie games but Borderlands 2 and other stuff. So to be realistic I'm not playing brand new AAA titles.

So if I'm looking for a good card and a good bang for my buck what am I looking at? Ideally high graphics or so for what I'm playing.

As a note my current system has a PNY 750 Ti OC 2gb that I got for cheap to replace my 4850HD.

4gb cards are better for games with heavy graphics like shadow of mordor (just an example) I would highly recommend a 4 gb card. your psu should work fine, but if you want to be safe I would go with a 650watt. Remember, the psu is supplying power to your whole pc so don't cheap out on it. but yes 550 watts should be fine. And if you get a 970 or 390 I would probably upgrade the psu but that's my opinion.

The gtx 970 should work fine. Another great card would be the r9 390 or r9 390x. If these are to expensive maybe look into a gtx 960.

If you intend to stay at 1080p then I think you could get away with taking a step down. Maybe a R9 380 or GTX 960, both sub $200 and will perform quite well. Just a decision between team red and green. I'd recommend the 960 for 1080p gaming, you would only need the higher Vram for multiple displays or higher resolutions.

that's why I don't prefer the 960. 2gb of vram isn't enough to run good graphics.

At 1080p it would be fine for now considering Nvidia has higher stock clock speeds, but in the future with DX12 I don't see 2GB ever being seen again.
