Deciding on which to get. I need to narrow down manufacturer and then model from there...

I previously have had eVGA. I saw in another thread MSI and ASUS recommendations.

I will be using an MSI mobo - not sure if that matters at all.

It will be single (for now). I've never OC'd and don't plan to (although it'd be nice to have the option available). The best I can get out of the box is preferred without having to mess with settings.

I am getting a 4K monitor. The main things the computer will be for are media and gaming.

Air cooling, no liquid cooling. Quieter is better (if it doesn't affect performance)

Thanks!

P.S.: Maybe someone should sticky a thread with GPU brands compared? I bet each one has their pros and cons... I didn't see anything like that already (maybe it's buried?)

EDIT: Looking at newegg - I don't think I can afford this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125838

I know you said no water but coming from EVGA Ref card to MSI Sea Hawk is night and day. Getting 7-10fps on 4k average too and it's incredibly quiet even overclocked. Never hit 50c. I've seen them on Hardforum and my local Craigslist for ~$650 or so used and $675 after some negotiation NIB.

Meanwhile looking specifically....

What is the difference between these two?

I'm not worried about the look too much especially if they are basically all black like the ones above. Any particular reason for your ASUS recommendation?

gigabyte windforce or msi twin frozr models with the evga acx 2.0 following close behind. the water cooled models(hybrid, seahawk, waterforce) are excellent as well but definitely cost a bit more. im not too hot with asus graphics cards but their motherboards are excellent, though usually overpriced compared to gigabyte or asrock.

that evga classified is in a completely different class than the other models and besides the kingpin, it is the best 980ti you can get simply because of the software mods available for it. but if you are never going to put the card under water then you can get by with a lower tier model. the classified is fully meant for a water block.

all the 980ti models will go about 1500mhz before they run into a thermal bottleneck. even the reference card and cooler can go to 1400mhz, though it would be much noiser than the custom coolers. unless you are going to put the card under water i would just get the cheapest card from evga, msi, gigabyte, or asus.

I did use that but all the stats I see are exactly the same... that's why I was wondering what the difference is. I must be missing something.
