Hello,

I recently obtained a D-Link DNS-321 NAS from a friend for Christmas, and I was hoping to use Windows backup utility on my Windows 10 machine to backup my files and a system image to the NAS. However, I am receiving the error message:

"The requested operation could not be completed due to a virtual disk system limitation. Virtual hard disk files must be uncompressed and unencrypted and must not be sparse."
Error code: 0xC03A001A

My NAS has been configured using JBORD and individual disk formats, but both have failed.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the link to the screenshot of the error message - http://i65.tinypic.com/x2rn12.png

Solution
I haven't really used it as a backup solution yet as my OS drives don't really have anything of importance on them but when i get a chance I'll check it out.
how is the NAS connected? do you have mapped drives or just browsing the network and saving it there?

And i would reccomened Macrium Reflect Free VS windows backup (Unless you were using Windows server). You can setup scheduals and it can work in the back ground and it makes an image of your ENTIRE hard drive and can do incremental backups as well.

Hello drtweak,

The NAS is connected through network mapping. I am then going to the mapped volume and saving the backup.
And I will try your recommended software now to see if that works better.

Thank you!

@drtweak,

When you configure Macrium, how many full backups and differentials to you choose to keep? It defaults to 12 full and 4 differential, but that doesn't seem right to me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.
