hello Guys. i want to ask you, is 5th gen. processor only for laptop ? and i want to buy a Gaming pc.
i buy only a processor and motherboard. my budget is 30000Rs indian rupees. i have gtx 970 Gpu and 12 Gb ram . so please tell me about

^Skylake is 6th gen.

The big hype with Broadwell Desktop (5th gen) processors will be the 6-8 core Broadwell-E processors, due to land later this year.

The i7-5775C and i5-5675C desktop processors have been released, but haven't really caught on because Skylake desktop processors released so soon afterwards and there were no 4-core "enthusiast" versions of the CPUs.

Hey,
Make sure to add up the TOTAL cost of:
CPU
Motherboard
DDR3 or DDR4 memory (for your budget I might future proof with 16GB but I'll see what it costs.. otherwise 2x4GB).

It also depends on whether you need a good CPU cooler (i.e. intend to overclock heavily).

An i5-4590 is a good choice, but I'll check pricing.

*You can roughly compare performance using Passmark (compare SINGLE THREAD performance not total).
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-4590+%40+3.30GHz

**If getting a better CPU than an i5-4590 meant getting a cheap motherboard then I'd get the i5-4590 plus better motherboard.

Will post Flipkart parts below (though you may find better pricing).

You can't use your DDR3 memory with that. There ARE some motherboards for it that support DDR3 but it's a huge problem as the CPU is likely to get damaged.

So my advice is the i5-4690K + Asus Z97-A (or similar quality motherboard).

Gaming performance will be nearly IDENTICAL using the i5-6600K or i5-4690K.

(If you can't find the CPU's in stock, get the i5-4590 or i5-4670K... if you get the i5-4590 which is NOT overclockable you can save a bit and get an H97 motherboard but make sure to do your research and ensure it's a QUALITY board. The Asus H97-Plus for example MAY be okay but I didn't research it.)

Yep.
It would have been best to say you had 12GB of DDR4 at the start as most people would assume it's DDR3 froma previous build and you're just upgrading the motherboard and CPU.

(again, there are some Skylake motherboards that use DDR3 but those are to be avoided due to CPU damage.. and the fact your DDR4 memory won't work)

So yeah, the i5-6600K plus compatible motherboard is what you want. Maybe one of the Asus Z170 boards like the Z170-A.

Other:
How is it you have exactly 12GB of DDR4 anyway?

If you have 3x4GB then make sure you can use it that way with no bandwidth loss. I don't know if DDR4 supports triple-channel (otherwise it operates in single channel mode). I don't see any triple channel memory kits so I'd be surprised if it did.

If not, you'll want to use 2x4GB or buy a different kit such as 2x8GB 2666MHz.

i5-6600K is arguably the best processor for gaming available today at any price.
The more expensive i7-6700K has hyperthreading which gives 4 additional low capacity threads.
But, they will not be used because most games can only make use of 2-3 threads.
Better to spend the price difference elsewhere.
