Z170 Chipset use "DDR4" RAM.
Yes it would work if its "DDR4"

Im not recommending 2 x 16GB
Why?

DDR4 RAM have new qualities named "Quad - Channel" Which means you need to buy 4 RAM as a pack.
If you get 2 x 16gb it will only trigger Dual - Channel which DDR3 Have already

The trident Z will work fine in a X99 system. G.Skill put out the Ripjaw 4's out specifically for X99 and then the Ripjaw V and Trident Z as being meant for the Intel 100 series boards. Supposedly one is optimized for its own specific chipset. In reality they're all do the same thing in the boards, so buy the with the timings, look, and price you like.

As for 4x8GB or 2x16GB, Tradesman1 and 11sphere92 already went over it with quad vs dual channel support

Pretty much, but quad channel isn't new, it was preceeded by the original 2011/X79 mobos that ran DDR3 in quad channel mode

The link you provided listed it as a "Dual Channel Kit" - will it still work as quad channel?
