Is my I5-2400 CPU or R9 270x GPU the bottleneck?

I want to upgrade to a 1080p monitor soon, but right now I can't decide whether to upgrade from a a 270x to a 280x or an i5-2400 to an i5-3550. They're both heavy investments and I can only afford to upgrade one at the time. All I know is that either of my current GPU and CPU is a huge bottleneck in my system, but I don't know which.

If anyone has any other suggestions please do tell, I'm kinda new when it comes to higher end CPUs.

Just try 1080p without upgrading, you are probably fine.

Bottlenecks are found when actually playing the games. IF the CPU is at 100% and the GPU less than 100, then the cpu is the bottleneck (and vice versa).
