Bad FPS BF4 GPU Upgrade

I recently upgraded my old HD 7850 with 1GB of VRAM to a new R9 290 4GB and I'm getting very disappointing FPS in Battlefield 4, nothing else.

Specs:

AMD FX 6300

8GB DDR3

BIOSTAR TA970XE

R9 290 4GB

ARC M650W PSU

With my old 7850 I got around 60 FPS on low, now I can barely run it on medium/high. Which doesn't make sense because I've seen videos of people with my exact CPU and GPU getting 80/90 FPS on ultra. Another thing that doesn't make sense is I can run Star Wars Battlefront on ultra with around 70 FPS no problem, which doesn't make sense because they're practically running on the same exact engine.

Meaning your issue is BF4 specific? You are not getting poor fps in other games than BF4? I wouldn't blame this on any of the components in your system, for example your psu delivers enough amps (54 a) on the 12V rail whilst R9 290 requires 31 Amps.

Something that might help is deleting the BF4 documents folder completely, so it sees it like you are playing the game for the first time. It might reset the necessary stuff so your GPU might actually get the right performance.

Another try is to remove old drivers with DDU and then downloading the latest appropiate AMD drivers.

That's exactly it. Every other game I meant to get good FPS in with this new card, I do (Tom Clancy, SWBF, Bo3, Assassin's Creed Syndicate) except BF4, it's odd really.

Can you explain what DDU is. I've seen that mentioned everywhere but have no goddamn clue what it is.

DDU is Display Driver Uninstaller. It does as the name suggests, uninstalls all your AMD drivers so you can fresh install the latest version (which can fix potential performance problems) You can download the latest version HERE
