Hello again tom'sHARDWARE community! I recently upgraded my GPU from a 570 to a 980 TI and everything is working fine and dandy (thank you guys for the help!). But, I thought, since I upgraded my GPU, why stop there? Currently I have 16gb of ram. They are 4xCorsair's 4gb. I'm wondering if my mobo and chip would be able to handle 4x8gb of ram. I've read that the i7 2600k max's at 1333 MHZ without overclocking and I am confused with the "max" part. Is it, all 4 all together can't be past 1333 or is it each one can't be past 1333? I am pretty sure it's the latter but it never hurts to ask before I go messing around with my rig, lol.

While I am on the subject of upgrading, would the rig also handle dual 980 TI's? (I know I'm going to get the question of "why would I want two?" and the simple answer is after this upgrade I don't wanna upgrade for a good long while and I want to make sure my PC will play the latest and greatest games even 6-8 years from now).

Thank you guys for all the help!

Solution
- Highly unlikely you'd need more than 16GB ram unless you do heavy video editing / rendering on a regular basis.
- You can use up to DDR3 2800 with the Z77 board if you want. DDR3 2133 would be more than fast enough.
- If you have 16GB DDR3 1333 you won't see a big performance increase by upgrading. Maybe small increase but not worth the $.
- A pair of 980 ti's will run at x8, x8 in your PCIe 3.0 slots which is fine for SLI.
- You'll need a high quality 850 watt power supply for 980 ti SLI.

No chance...

Do you know any 6-8 year old cards that can play current AAA titles well? I have a GTX 280 somewhere that can't play much of anything - they are £20 on Ebay...

Save your money, be very happy with one 980 and wait for viable single-card 4k solutions to be available?

Yes you can on the DRAM, I had an Extreme 4 with the 3570K and ran 32 GB of 2400 which is a good realistic goal with your 2600K, it might be able to run faster DRAM but at 32GB it would be stretching it to run 2666 unless you have a lottery pick 2600K - the MC would prob be straining which can reduce the OC and CPU performance, if going upI'd look at 2133/2400 sticks - and would hold off on the SLI(2nd GPU) and see how things go with newer cards and games

Yeah, that's true.
