I have built a PC to play DOS games using part made no later than 1999. I am having trouble installing Windows 95 and getting everything to boot correctly. For reference, here are my system specs: Abit BH-6 board, Pentium II 400, 256mb Toshiba PC100 SDRAM, Riva TNT AGP Video card, and a 20GB Quantum Fireball IDE HDD. All of the parts are undamaged and work correctly, except every time I boot it up the CMOS resets itself. I go into the BIOS and set the cpu clock speed to default values, then set it to boot from a floppy first (i'm trying to install DOS 6.22). After I save my inputs, the cpu clock speed is displayed as 266mhz (I want 400mhz), and I get this message:
Floppy Disk(s) fail (40)
CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck - CPU SOFT MENU
First of all, I have no idea how to install DOS or Win95 on an old machine like this. The windows 95 install disc does not seem to work, so I decide to install DOS, but I don't know how to do that. Another weird thing- It says in the CPU soft menu that I can set the CPU clock speed to 850 mhz. I have more than one of these boards (this is the only one with no problems) and I have never seen that option. Something here is wrong. Can anyone help? This is driving me insane.
