I recently bought a PC. The configuration is as follows.
AMD Fx-4300 quad core processor
Processor speed is 3.8 GHz
installed RAM 4 GB
64 bit
Cache is 8MB
It has a 2GB internal graphics memory and I have installed a 512MB dedicated NVIDIA 8400GS that I had.

I thought I built a fair pc for medium graphics gaming. But, I have observed that I cannot even play games like GTA 4, NFS hot pursuit and Assassin's creed 1 (which was released in 2007) without extreme lag which makes it unplayable.
Is there anything I that could do ? Please help me. I have tried many NVIDIA settings too but all in vain.

My PC satisfies the recommended requirements way beyond what they ask for.

Recommended requirements:
Video RAM 256 MB (I have 2.2GB - 512mb is dedicated)
Pixel Shader version 3.0 (I have 4.1)
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64
Recommended: 1 GB Windows Xp / 2 GB Windows Vista (I have 4GB)

Solution

Its not just about capacity, its about the frequency and also the latency(access time) . Its a big difference between 1333Mhz and 1866Mhz and low and high latency, he lower the better it performes.
I can't help you, but let me point out one thing to members who will answer. Yes, that card is a bit of an antique. It was released about the same time as Assassin's Creed, so it should at least be able to play that. Please don't just tell the OP that it's slow.

OP, you might do better with the on-board graphics!

You dont have enough RAM, and even if you do, I think it's frequency is low (1333mhz, maybe 1600mhz) which is very slow and low capacity. If you have 2GB internal graphics, go with that, even though is used with your CPU and will reduce it's speed and probably shares RAM with the CPU.

Even though it is a bit old, it meets the game requirements. I tried on board graphics too. If not great performance, shouldn't it give at least playable fair performance? It is utterly bad. The story videos don't even play right. Ultra-slow!!

Try lower settings. Obviously your RAM is not fast enough or has a fair capacity for the game. And its a difference between having MINIMUM requirements and RECOMMENDED requirements.

Extreme lagging is caused by RAM then.
