Hi all, trying to install windows 7 using USB to my samsung EVO 500GB SSD has been very frustrating. The error message I receive when I try the installation is as followed "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing". I've read many, many posts about the subject, but none of them seem to be useful.

Setting:
mobo: Z170 pro gaming
SSD connected to SATA port 1
SSD set to AHCI using BIOS

Tried:
- changing USB ports during installation
- putting AHCI/RAID drivers in a separate USB, and plug that USB along with the windows installation USB (the other USB is not detected by the windows installer)

Thoughts:
the mobo can definitely detect the SSD as it can be seen on BIOS- does this mean it already has the AHCI/RAID drivers?

Please help! any input is appreciated, thank you in advance!

Sounds like the Operating system on the memory stick itself, the reason being it sounds like it is missing the initial boot files. You whole system like the SSD is completely fine apart from the software on the USB. I had this problem as well and what I had to go here: http://wudt.codeplex.com

From there it is pretty straight forward as there is a lot of support. You would need two programs: Daemon tools and winrar (or similar type products). You would need Daemon tools to use it as an ISO and use Winrar to extract it to the memory stick (You would do this all after you have done the ISO creator).

From there you should then put your memory stick in, press DEL or a hot key that your motherboard uses to get into the BIOS. Choose your USB to be the primary boot (I assume you know how to do this as you have mentioned you have tried). Then it should work from there, you should make sure before you put anything onto memory stick you format it to FAT32.

This should now work.

Sorry for the hassle gentlemen!
It seems as though rgd1101 was right... I was just not being bright at all by not reading the manual.. But strange though, who would've thought in these days you'd need and optical drive to get the right drivers for installing windows? So I bought an OD and the installation is in progress. Thank you for your comments all!
