Hi i recently upgraded my pc by getting a new motherboard, gpu and cpu and all worked well with my old ram. i recently decided to upgrade the ram as well from 4 gb adata to 8 gb kingston. my old ram works fine when in my computer but when installing the new ram the computer starts and restarts twice then run like normal but gives me no display???

My motherboard : gigabyte h81m-h rev 2.1 ( http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5329#ov)

New ram: Kingston KTH9600C/8G

Solution
Also, have you tried the other memory slot?
And if you have a graphics card try plugging it into the motherboard directly.
Also, what kind of PSU do you have, and make sure its all plugged in correctly.

Apart from that, yeah it looks like the stick is not working properly..

Do you have a 1x8gb(new) stick and a 1x4gb(old) stick? Or do you have 2x2GB(old) and 2x4GB(new) sticks. If they are 1 stick each capacity, are you using both of the sticks at the same time, or just one at a time?
If you are using both at the same time try to use only the new stick, and if you were already using only the new memory, then download Memtest86, and test your new memory.

What's your CPU? Does it support 1600MHz RAM?

Your CPU does not support 1600MHz memory.
You can go into the BIOS, and manually set the new memory to 1333MHz:

Boot up your PC, and press Del on your keyboard during post. (so just repeatedly press the Del button on your keyboard until you are in the BIOS.)
Press enter BIOS
Then navigate to M.I.T.
navigate to Extreme memory profiles. If you have them enabled, disable them
navigate to advanced frequency settings
then navigate to system memory multiplier
Manually set this so that the memory is at 1333MHz (you can see the frequency below the multiplier)
Navigate to save&exit.

your system will boot again, and it should work.

However, you are essentially underclocking your memory, so you have paid for more than you are using. If you can return your new memory FOR FREE, and if you can find 8gb 1333MHz memory, for cheaper, then you can do so to save a bit of money. Although it will also work with your Kingston 1600MHz memory, so you are only gaining the money difference between the 1600MHz stick and a 1333MHz stick

Update : I changed ram in bios settings with old ram and then powered off and installed new ram but problem still same no display. I also tryed repeatedly pressing del to try and get bios up with new ram installed. It should be working should it??

You should follow the bios instructions with the new memory installed.

You should be able to change it to 1333MHz.

However if you are already running at 1333MHz, and it still doesn't work, then you can test if the ram stick is faulty with MemTest86. You would need to download it, and follow the instructions to create a bootable usb, or cd. Then you need to boot your system, and then access the boot menu by pressing F12 during the boot process, and then selecting the bootable usb/cd. The memory will then be tested, so you know if its the stick or not.

But first try to set the memory to 1333MHz, and when you know for sure that it doesn't work even with 1333MHz, then test it with memtest. It should work though.

Where/when does your pc restart? Does it go through the "bios screen", or even before that?

no it does not even display bios with new ram. when i press power cpu fan starts and turns off twice then starts a 3rd time and run like normal but monitor has no signal and if i switch back to old ram it loads up straight away with no problems at all.

Not even the bios screen.... Hmm that's weird. You actually might have some sort of a corrupt stick. I would try to get a friend to run MemTest86 on it.( just this stick, so he would have to take all his ram out)
Where did you buy your stick? If it was in a local store just try to get a replacement. It should also have warranty, so you should be able to get a new one, but you would have to have it tested on a friends computer.

Also, your motherboard has 2 Ram slots, so if you want 8gb ram, you could always just buy your old ram stick again, so that you have 2x4gb=8gb.

Is the display plugged into the motherboard or do you have a graphics card?

One last thing is this: try plugging in both the new and the old stick.

Some ram does play well together, and the reason this would fix your problem is that when you have two different frequency sticks installed, the motherboard will run both at the lowest common speed, which would be 1333MHz. This way you could "trick" your motherboard into running the 1600MHz stick at 1333MHz, because your CPU doesn't support 1600MHz.
(Your stick might be PnP since its Kingston, so it sets itself to 1600MHz automatically.)

If that doesn't work, as we said bring it to a friend to test with MemTest86. If you end up buying a new stick make sure it's 1333MHz, and consider just matching your old 4gb ram to get 2x4gb=8gb, unless you plan on upgrading later.

i took the ram back and replaced it with another 1600mhz stick and is working perfectly with no problems. i got 1600mhz because i will upgrade my processor in future and will most likley allow 1600mhz but for now running at 1333mhz.

anyway thanks for all the help :) wouldnt of know what to do without you :cheese:
