What does overclocking your GPU memory and overvolting the memory do?

Solution
Overclocking your GFX card gets you more fps.... how much you get from core overclock and memory overclock varies from game to game .... but here we see the 980 Ti going from 102.6 at reference clocks to 134.8 at non-reference overclock ... a 31% increase.

The way I approach it, I look for my mac core at stock memory settings so I know the upper limit on core; then I'll keep core at stock and see how far I can take my memory. When doing this, you will find that the highest OC doesn't necessarily bring the highest fps. Usually it will rise as you bump each one up and then at some point, it tails off and heads down

The best balance will be somewhere in...

At + 200 on core (+360memory) , 3DMark Vantage, Unigine Valley and Unigine Heaven hit their peaks. However Ice Storm, Cloud Gate, Firestrike all peaked at +188. But once memory was overclocked too (+450ish), the best core was at at +168
