PC will not POST when changing RAM

I'm trying to help a friend upgrade their eMachines EL1850-01e desktop. Yeah, I know it's an old piece of junk computer, but they only use it to browse the Internet. I'm just trying to make some inexpensive upgrades to fit their needs.

Currently the PC only has 2 x 1 GB sticks of Samsung DDR3 1333 RAM installed. For $25 I purchased 2 x 2 GB sticks of G.Skill DDR3 1333 RAM. I installed the G.Skill RAM, and the PC will not POST. I then acquired 2 x 2 GB sticks of Samsung DDR3 1333 RAM that is literally the same model line as what was originally installed, it's just twice the size, but it too will not POST. So neither sets of new RAM that I have tried will work. When I power it on with either sets of RAM installed, I immediately get a long, continuous beep (it does not beep on and off, it just beeps on and stays on continuously until I manually power it down).

I put the original RAM back in and the PC operates just fine, but it only has 2 GB.

Things that I have done:
I have updated the BIOS to the latest version that is available which is P01.B3.
I checked the specs of the motherboard which is an Acer G41T-AD v1.0, and it officially supports up to 4 GB of RAM at 1333 and 1066 frequencies.
I have tried resetting the BIOS again.
I have tried 1 stick at a time in different slots.
I have tried combinations of 1 x 1 GB and 1 x 2 GB sticks.
I have disconnected the hard drive and DVD drive and repeated the above steps.

One additional thing that I have done is upgrade the CPU from a Celeron 450 to a Core 2 Duo E8500. The new processor only cost $12 so I thought what heck why not. I popped in the new processor and the PC does run much better.

Oddly, with the Celeron 450 and 2 x 2 GB sticks installed, the PC will not POST, but there is no beeping.

Can anyone please provide me with some advice? This really makes no sense to me because there should not be an issue with upgrading the RAM.

Motherboard specs are here: http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/specs-g41t-ad-motherboard/

No the PC does not POST when the new RAM is installed, so I cannot get into the BIOS. As soon as I power on the PC, I immediately get a continuous beep. I re-inserted the original memory and tried to see if I could make changes to voltage and other RAM settings, but this is a manufacturer BIOS so it is locked down tight.

One thing that I found is that when I powered on the PC with no RAM installed, I got the same continuous beep that I get when the 2 x 2GB sticks are installed. It's as if it can't detect the RAM and thinks there is nothing installed.

It is an AMI BIOS. Here are some of the possibly related settings that can be changed. Defaults in BOLD.
Frequency/Voltage
-Enable Clock to All DIMM/PCI [Enabled/Disabled]
-Speed Spectrum [Enabled/Disabled]

Advanced BIOS Features
-Quick Boot [[Enabled/Disabled]
-Quiet Boot [Enabled/Disabled]

Advanced Chipset Features
-Intel EIST [Enabled/Disabled]
-Intel XD Bit [Enabled/Disabled]
-Intel VT [Enabled/Disabled]
-Memory Hole Remapping [Enabled/Disabled]
-Video Memory Size [32MB/64MB/128MB]
-DVMT Memory Size [128MB/256MB/Maximum]

Hmm, they are all single-sided modules. And not working with two different sets/brands...unlucky.

Couple of things - the DRAM may be a newer line that uses high density chips - the 775 mobos take low density chips - the Biggest problem may simply be that it's an older pre-built e-machine mobo - DRAM support is probably extremely limited - you might try a and see if there's a BIOS upgrade available - else I woiuld try a pair of 2x2GB Gskill NT series value DRAM

That is a good point. What is the easiest way to tell if a module is low density or high density? Most product pages do not say what the density is. I looked on Newegg and Gskill NT seems to be DDR4?

There is no newer BIOS update available. I installed the last update that was released.

Thanks rolli59, I'll give that a try.

Just to add some additional information regarding the modules I have tried.
The original Samsung model number is m378b2873eh1-ch9
The replacement Samsung model number is m378b5773ch0-ch9
The replacement G.Skill model number is F3-10600CL9D-4GBNS

Thanks Tradesman1. I'll look at that as well. Once I get a low density module, I'll update this thread in case someone comes across a similar issue.
