Hello!

Thank you for taking the time to look over my noobish question.
So after some research I have figured out that my Hard Drive might be going the way of the DoDo.
I am kind of a noob when it comes to selecting new computer parts, so I was hoping someone could help me out with a suggestion.
Currently I have the following; Hitachi HDS723020BLA642 SCSI Disk Device (2TB), what would be a good upgrade from this model, since I am sure this part is obsolete at this point.

Thanks again for your time! :D

looks like you have 5 reallocated sectors. It is an early sign of drive failure but it isn't enough to make an impact on the drive or to worry right now. Keep an eye on it. If it goes up, replace the drive. If it says the same then you will be good for a while. Either way have a backup of anything that you can't risk losing.

Also download CCleaner then go to tools on the left and the drive wiper on the sub menu. Select your drive and do a 3 pass wipe of FREE SPACE ONLY. Let it do that over night. Sometimes that can fix the issue or sometimes make it worse or it may do nothing.

I would have a backup, then do that. This way if it gets worse, replace the drive. if it stays the same or gets better then you should be fine for now and...
If you want reliablity and a nice long 5 year warranty get a Western Digital Black 2TB. it will cost more but it is very reliable.

Also just to check on the hard drive. Download and install the Crystal Disk info in my signature and run it. Post back if it says anything but Good

Thanks you for getting back to me. I will definitely look up the hard drive you suggested and I will also try Crystal Disk.
I will post the results when that has been done.

Thanks again! I really appreciate it :D

Hi, I downloaded Crystal disk and it gave me the following info:

Health Status:
Caution
ID 5: Reallocated Sectors Count> 100 / 100 / 5
ID C5: Current Pending Sector Count> 100 / 100 / 0
ID C6: Uncorrectable Sector Count> 100 / 100 / 0

Please let me know if you need any additional data from the results.

Thanks alot!

First off, I'm pretty sure that hard drive isn't SCSI, it's just SATA.

Secondly, I'd actually recommend that you go with another HGST/Hitachi drive. They have around half the failure rate that WD has right now, and less than one tenth of what Seagate is seeing. If you have an SAS card then you can use one of their enterprise drives which are really solid, if not just get any newer HGST drive, the quality is good on pretty much all of them.

Third, you should make a backup and then replace the drive. Don't wait for it to fail, just do it.
