LG BluRay Drive will not read any DVD or Bluray Discs

Hello,
I just installed (put it in my case/ and attached the cables) a LG BluRay Disc drive in my PC and it will not play (the bluRay Discs appear, but are unreadable/ While the DVD discs do not even register) any of my BluRay or DVD discs. The exact model is LG WH16NS40. Am I missing a step or is my drive broken?

If you are trying to play Blu Ray movies (not data discs) and you bought an OEM bare drive, then you may not have any Blu Ray playback software installed on your machine (as OEM drives do not come with it). This is required.

Thank you for the response, I tried downloading VLC, and when I went to play a BluRay I received this error code:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///D:\'. Check the log for details.

Any ideas?

ONLY other thing i can suggest is to re-install the firmware - even assuming you have the latest firmware, i had an issue where i had to install it 3X to get it working - never understood why but it did "take" on the 3rd attempt

after that, i'd be on the phone to LG support or their live chat support - here's link to http://www.lg.com/us/burners-drives/lg-WH16NS40-internal-blu-ray-dvd-drive
