My CPU is suddenly acting crazy

I bought 4 case fans and installed them. But I didn't have enough slot so I didn't plug them all in. I tried plugging one into the pump_fan and another into the vrm_fan on the MB, and turned on my PC for a test. The fans were turning, but my CPU was acting weird. All cores temperature and CPU usage were much higher than usual right after startup with nothing running.

So I immediately powered off and unplugged the 2 fans from the slots on the MB. I tried again, the problem persisted somehow. I played some game, and CPU temperature went as high as 71c. After quitting the game, both temperature and usage keep going up and down like in the above screenshots, for example temp would go from 38c to 50c in a second and then drop again. And the temp never go down to the 20s like they usually do after a while.

I didn't change anything else, and everything is technically back to what things are like before installing the fans. I didn't change anything to the CPU or the heatsink at all.

Please help! Thank you!

As far as the temp of 71 goes :( That's within the limits of the CPU but still quite high. You may want to try re-applying thermal paste.

As for the reason why your usage is jumping around check task manager or even download Sysinternals to look for unwanted processes and those using large amounts of resources.

Thanks for your answer. Well what I‘m mainly concerned with is why things suddenly changed. I wouldn't be as worried if it has always been like this. I've had this PC for almost 2 months now and the CPU temperature has never reached this high, and never not go down to 20s when not under load, and getting so hot right after startup, and CPU usage has never been so irregular. I'm afraid that I did something that messed something up, but I just can't figure out what since the only thing I changed what adding the fans.

Yes. But I've always have, and everything was fine until yesterday.
I don't think thermal paste should be used up so fast right? Plus that shouldn't really affect the CPU usage either no?
