Earlier today about 5 minutes after starting my laptop I went to launch Steam and my computer beeped two times, I didn't think anything of it other then being odd! Steam decided to not open, I pressed it again and opened it only to show 75% of my games were no longer shown as installed and noticed half my links on desktop were blank. I opened "File Explorer" to see if I could access the drive and it showed as non existent.

To clarify i'm running Windows 10 64-bit, I have a SSD boot drive and another 500GB SSD in my CD Bay. The drive that failed was a "HGST 1TB 7200RPM Laptop HDD", never heard of HGST to be honest. The drive that failed was also in two partitions, stock, so I had boot drive (C: ), the Failed HDD (D: ) & (E: ), and my own added SSD (F: ).

When I restarted my laptop it beeped once, and still does when starting. I checked BIOS, CHKDSK, File Explorer, and Disk Manager to see if it would show but "no dice". The data on the HDD was mainly games and not too important. I had no signs of slowdowns, errors, or cause for a disk failure. It simply stopped working. Any ideas on what to try doing? I've put a request through to ASUS Support but if I can fix it I would love to give it a try!

The hard drive is dead. Unfortunately it happens and the likelihood of repairing it by yourself is slim to none. If the BIOS does not see it no repair software will either.

Glad to help. If you decide to replace the drive, opening the old one can be a neat learning experience, just remember, once opened there is zero chance it will ever function properly again.
