Ok i am upgrading my system mother oard and cpu as i am running old lga1150 and 16 gb ram 2x8.

Im looking to upgrade to
Motherboard:
Msi z170a gaming m7
Cpu :
Intel i7-6700k

Im wondering what ram to get and also what is better i want 16gb as i do other stuff then just game so is it better to run 2x8 or 4x4 ram setup? Probably a dimb question ino but im still learning :)

Thanks

The current skylake chips don't support Quad channel, so there is no MB like that. Probably 6740k or something along those lines when it comes out in 6-12 months will support quad, but so far it doesn't. Also you don't really get that much benefit out of quad channel, dual channel is more than enough. But you have a haswell CPU and 16gb ram, or that is my guess, so your build is most likely good enough and doesn't need an upgrade but that is your choice.

A 2x8 RAM configuration is more power efficient than a 4x4. If you want really high performing RAM, Corsair Dominator Platinum (http://www.corsair.com/en/dominator-platinum-series-16gb-2-x-8gb-ddr4-dram-3000mhz-c15-memory-kit-cmd16gx4m2b3000c15) is a good choice. If you want a cheaper alternative you can go for Kingston HyperX Fury RAM. The Kingston RAM is slightly slower and has a less efficient cooler.

the main reasonf or the upgrade is the mobo i may not go that high of a cpu may go to a lower spec cpu but the mobo i am changing for s few reasons 1 being colour scheme 2 being some connectors are broken XD i just changed cases came across a few thing and if im upgrading that i want to go to new cpu socket so it slast me for another 5 years again! So the mobo i am changing but if i do hat i need to get new cpu and ram also im upgrading GPU !

Currently i have a evga 660ti runs fine temp hits about 60c but its factory clocked so i am guna overclock that then upgrade that first ir last havnt secided yet but i am wanting to SLI 2 msi 970 tein forz but eont sli straight away!

Don't go sli straight away better gtx 980ti, also yeah gskill are really good when it comes to ram, really good. Just always go to the website of the motherboard you are going to buy and check the Memory QVL(qualified vendor list) for supports types of memory (only needed if you are getting overclocked memory however, for standard 2133 even 2400 you will have no problem).
