Hi, if I upgrade my RAM memory, do I only need to think about getting ddr3 memory for my motherboard, or is it more I need to look into? Yes, I know my motherboard uses ddr3 for sure. How important is it that the ram is fully compadible with the motherboard and what can happen if I get memory which isnt fully supported by the motherboard??

Thanks in advance

Solution
If not planning to OC would go 2x8GB 1866 Trident X, alternates woutl be Ripjaws X or Snopers (could also go 2133/9 though those (depending on your individual CPU) may have to be dropped to 1866

Getting memory that is not fully supported can easily lead to the system failing to boot. It will not likely damage any hardware, but if it does function it will cause the memory already in the system to lower its speed to match the added stick. The best option is to buy the same RAM you already have and use it in matching pairs.

I currently have the msi z97 gmaing 9 ac motherboard paired with a intel core i7 4790k which isnt overclocked. Im currently got the corsair vengeance pro red ddr3 1600mhz 2x4gb kit, which isnt fully supported, and Im thinking of buying a completely new 16gig kit which I know is fully supported. I wanted to start this thread because sometimes when I close csgo, it never fully closes and I just have to shut down the computer, and sometime sin GTA V I get huge fps drops 50% of the time. Sometimes it runs well, sometimes it runs like shit and its totally unplayable. Any suggestions? Btw thanks for the answers so far :D

Thanks! Do you think its the memory that is causing the lag in gta 5? Also, I dont have a lot of money to spend if I get a new 16gb kit, so I think I would go with the hyperx kit I found, if my memory is whats causing the in game problems.
